Committees

GET INVOLVED IN YOUR ASSOCIATION


Below are a list of the association's committees. If you are interested in learning more about the association and would like to serve on a committee, complete the form below.

Committee Chairpersons

Committee Chairpersons are responsible for scheduling monthly committee meetings, creating an agenda, and recording minutes or notes to be reported to the Executive Committee and full Board of Directors at a monthly Committee Update Meeting (ZOOM).

Conference & Show

The Conference & Show Committee shall be responsible for the operation of the trade show, including identification of potential future venues, theme and hall decorations, hall entertainment, exhibitor registration, rules and regulations, security, exhibit setup, teardown. etc. The committee oversees all social and recreational events during the annual FTGA Conference and Show, including meals, golf tournaments, picnics, receptions, fundraising activities and administrative duties such as registration, tickets, door prizes, etc.

Education

The Education Committee shall help to plan turf seminars, field days, and any other education except for the annual FTGA Conference and Show.

Finance

The Finance Committee shall consist of the Secretary/ Treasurer, who shall serve as chair of the Finance Committee and such other members as the President may appoint. This committee shall prepare an annual operating budget for the next fiscal year to be presented for the approval of the Board of Directors at a meeting to be held not less than 15 days prior to the end of the current fiscal year. The committee shall also be responsible for the arrangement of the presentation at the annual meeting of the association, for an audit of the past year's financial operation. Such an audit shall be conducted by a licensed certified public accountant.

Industry & Advocacy

The Industry Advocacy Committee shall serve as a liaison to the media, regulatory agencies and other entities involved in community issues and determining public policy. The committee coordinates activities on behalf of the turfgrass industry to ensure the industry's voice is heard.

Leadership & Development
A leadership and development committee identifies, recruits and prepares membership for leadership roles.
Member Services

The Member Services Committee shall identify members’ needs in the field of education and training and work to expand the FTGA's membership benefit offerings. The committee shall also promote the FTGA via booth exhibits at the FTGA Conference and Show, as weIl as at other trade shows. The committee shall increase the FTGA membership base through various promotional campaigns (i.e., "get a member" contest and membership pins); plan all aspects of such campaigns (advertising, promotional materials and mailings); and determine new membership categories (when needed), including membership costs, who should comprise the category and information and benefits the members shall receive.

Nominating & Elections

The Nominating and Elections Committee shall consist of five (5) members: the immediate past president who shall serve as chairman, the current president, one (1) member of the Past President's Committee other than the past president, and two (2) from the membership at large. This committee shall select and present at the annual meeting of the association a slate of candidates as follows:

One (1) candidate for the seat of each director whose term of office expires at the dose of that annual meeting

One (1) candidate for the office of vice president

One (1) candidate for the office of secretary/ treasurer

The committee shall also cause this slate to be made known to the membership at large not less than thirty (30) days prior to said annual meeting. In particular instance, should events result in an inability to meet this requirement without postponing the annual meeting, this requirement may be waived or modified by affirmative vote of not less than two-thirds of the directors present and voting at a legally constituted and conducted meeting of the board of directors of the association.

The committee shall monitor the elections to ensure that only qualified voting members of the association, in good standing, receive and cast ballots at the annual meeting. The committee shall be charged to make an official, impartial count of the balloting and to announce the results.

Past President’s

The Past President's Committee shall consist of the immediate past president, who shall serve as chair, and all other past presidents who wish to take an active part in the association. The committee shall serve as a historical committee, to write and update the history of the association. They may act as an advisory committee and make recommendations to the board of directors as they see fit. They shall meet not less than twice annually. One (1) past president shall give the necrology report at the annual meeting.

Research

Scholarships & Awards

The Scholarship & Awards Committee shall oversee the application and selection process of academic scholarships.
